Kanthaswamy (Tamil: கந்தசாமி) is a 2009 Tamil language feature film directed by Susi Ganesan, who with Kanthaswamy completed his fourth film. Vikram acts in the lead role, whilst Shriya Saran, Prabhu Ganesan, Krishna, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukesh Tiwari and Vadivelu also play roles in the film. Mumaith Khan features in a cameo appearance while Susi Ganesan himself makes a special appearance. The film's soundtrack and background score is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The film simultaneously released as Mallana in Telugu and is set to be also dubbed into English, Spanish and Italian.[3]

The film's plot revolves around CBI officer Kanthaswamy, along with his friends, granting the wishes of the needy people who write letters to a local Lord Muruga Temple, disguised like an anthropomorphic chicken. During a CBI income tax raid, he discovers that Ponnusamy, a rich entrepreneur, contains black money. To escape the questioning, Ponnusamy pretends to be paralyzed. The event angers his daughter Subbulakshmi and goes after Kanthaswamy, pretending to love him, seeking revenge. This forms a cat and mouse chase between the two. While he is also sought after by a local police inspector who tries to solve the mystery of "Lord Muruga saving the people," the fate of Kanthaswamy's disguise leads into the climax of the story.

The movie has Jayaram as Prabhakaran (Jayaram), a hardcore Gandhian, who is also a former Panchayat member of a remote village called Thonoorkkara. He has devised his own ways of protesting against the corrupt practices followed by Avarachan and co, who is ruling the Panchayath. Though he lives in a house owned by his uncle and is finding it difficult to manage his state of financial affairs, he is a staunch advocate of principles in every little steps, he takes. The movie offers many plot divergences, that comes in the form of marriage of his adopted sister Radhika, arrival of his cousin Renjini and a short mistaken love affair, and then the routine muscleman crook from Mumbai for providing a little fisticuffs and the crude plots of all other bad souls in the village to corner this virtuous conscientious protagonist. And as expected the movie calls the final shot when Prabhakaran emerges the winner after several tests of his patience, honesty and sincerity.

People love to go for original concepts. Shortkut – The Con is On relies on cliches, which in turn make you burst into a big yawn.
