Sorry if we’ve hurt the feelings of Prabhu. We appreciate him for choosing a clichéd story with some twists in the second half. But then, it’s not so impressive and Prabhu could’ve worked for a slick narration.

Years back, ace filmmaker Robert Rajashekar had delivered a fantabulous film titled ‘Palaivana Cholai’ with Suhasini, Rajeev, Vagai Chandrasekhar, Thyagu and Janakaraj in lead roles. The film happens to be an evergreen classic with its heart-touching tale of friendship and emotional bonding of relationships. But now, the classic piece of work has been deteriorated with a simple word of ‘remake’. Why do our filmmakers attempt to remake classics that earned reputation for our film industry?

For those, who have idea about watching ‘Palaivana Cholai’ remake, can better look out for home videos of yesteryear version. Of course, the story about boys with gloomy backdrop and roaming Casanovas has been a sort of threadbare. At this point, this remake actually doesn’t evoke anyone’s interest.

How nice was it to hear Arshad Khan revealing the way how they choose film’s title? In fact, the promos did evoke our certain levels of watching the film. But it’s really disappointing to watch the film ‘Saa Boo Thri’ as it doesn’t look to be different on any extents.

Maybe, if Arshad had made this film catering for B and C centres, then they wouldn’t have recognized where he had got the ideas lifted from. But then, multiplex audiences will easily point out every scene lifted from Hindi films. Say for instance, Arshad Khan falling in love with older woman is a direct call from Dil Chahta Hai where Akshay Khanna falls for Dimple Kapadia. Similarly, Prajan and Mithuna involved in online dating is a copycat from Revathy’s ‘Mitr – My Friend’. Uh-huh! Not everything looks great in this film with double etendre liners and clumsy elements.

Thambivudayaan [2009]

Reluctance by a neighbouring State to release river water has allegedly left many agricultural regions in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu reel under drought.Several agricultural and farmers associations have raised their ante against the authorities for their ‘failure’ to take appropriate steps to get the water released. This seems to have inspired director Raja Mahesh to churn out ‘Thambivudayaan’, a movie that throws light of the sufferings of farmers in delta region of Tamil Nadu. ‘Thambivudayaan’ is about a youth, who is pained by the travails of farmers going hammer and tongs to get the due share of water from the neighbouring State. How he convinces the State machinery to take steps to release water forms the crux. Thambivudayaan (Adhitya Anbu) is a college student and his father is a Panchayat chief (Nizhalgal Ravi). They are good samaritans and help the peasants who suffer a lot as a result of drought.

Ever since Sathyan Anthikkad had made a mark in the Mollywood industry ,his forte has been soft, satires peppered with quality  humour. Recall some of his best from Nadodikkattu to Sandhesham or Vinodhayathra; he always has a point of critical social commentary to make, that worked well with the audience.

Also a smart director to pick the right names for  his films, his new  ''Bhagya Devatha'' definitely is another winner, which doesn't need much luck to emerge one.Here the director  revisits his strengths with a sweeping effect, in one of his own  best scripts. With the brilliant  camera work of Venu, the movie stands out  as a well made,well narrated movie that also makes a stunning visual statement of Kerala backwaters. The story of Bhagya Devatha by Rajesh Jayarman, is pretty predictable and old as the hills ,but  mirrors the  universal truth about greed and overambitiousness  that   ruins all relationships. But Sathyan has managed to weave  one  captivating movie, with his stock village characters  and sequences, that really does justice to the central thought. Jayaram plays Benny, a diploma holder, who runs the franchisee of a local cable TV channel in a kuttanad village .

'Venalmaram' (earlier titled 'Omkaram') is at best patchy. Parts of it are passably good, but parts are also downright bad. The film is a rehash of stuff you have seen again and again, and there's little point wasting your time over it.

A deaf and dumb boy, who is left all alone in the world, is brought up by a lottery ticket seller named Shankarankutty. The kind-hearted man names him Vinayakan. Shankarankutty's niece Ammu, who stays with him, calls him Vinayan. From his childhood Vinayan clashes with Vaasavan, who teases and follows Ammu.

Years pass and they all grow up. Vinayan works as an assistant in a tea shop run by Shankarankutty's friend. Ammu and Vinayan love each other. Vaasavan becomes a hoodlum. He is constantly lusting after Ammu. It is into this picture that Muthulakshmi enters. She takes Vaasavan under her wings in order to avenge the murder of her husband. Once her mission is accomplished, she gives herself up to the lecherous Vaasavan. She intends to marry Vaasavan, who though not averse to using her, is still lusting after Ammu. What happens from then forms the rest of the plot.

When the U.S. needs a new national Christmas tree, a toy company holds a contest. The winning tree belongs to 17-year-old video blogger Rock Burdock (Williams), whose father, Corey (McCarthy), planted the Sitka Spruce for him the day he was born. With a week to go before Thanksgiving, Corey and Rock, accompanied by marketing rep Faith Russell (Matchett), embark on a cross-country drive to bring the tree to Washington, D.C., where it will be planted across from the White House and lit up by the President himself.

Rock isn’t looking forward to spending days on end with a dad who doesn’t understand him, but Corey hopes the trip will allow for some father-son bonding, however belated it may be. As the Burdocks make their way across the country, the tree garners more and more fans. However, with the increased media attention, the tree’s value begins to be more about its marketability than its sentimental value as a national symbol and it’s up to Rock and Corey to decide – as a family – which is more important.

So, he decide to leave the case and return to his ancient work in a Psychiatric clinic for teenagers. It's about some lass (Kripa) who heads back to Kerala after her parents were gunned down in the US. And here she develops a fascination for a mute boy (Abhilash) and soon moves into the city with him, amidst hostility from the locals regarding her public displays of affection.

That's pretty much most of what I gathered from what I saw, or rather slept through. The production values are shoddy, and the film looks like it has been shot under the shade throughout. Characters keep on mouthing lines long after the dubbing artistes have gone for a nap.

There is so much talk about the country bumpkin being the next best thing to a Greek God. No offence of course, but seriously I couldn't understand what all the ruckus was about. And with every woman out there going bonkers over the man, there seems something dead wrong with the air out there.

The story opens in the modern era. Rajaram (Nasser), a rich estate owner in Ooty, is decieved by his greedy relatives (played by M.S. Bhaskar, Ilavarasu and Mayilsamy). Into this setting comes Sita (Saranya Mohan), who tries to stall the evil designs of the trio. She falls in love with the cook of the house, Sriram (Aravind).
